Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer
The Business and Professional Women of Pennsylvania is proud to announce that our 2026-2027 State Project is Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer.

The Story Behind the Mission
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation began with one remarkable little girl, Alex Scott. At just four years old, while battling cancer, Alex set up a lemonade stand in her front yard to raise money for childhood cancer research. Her goal was simple yet powerful: help doctors find better treatments and cures for children facing cancer. Before her passing at the age of eight, Alex had inspired people across the country and helped raise more than $1 million for childhood cancer research. Her legacy continues today through the Foundation established by her family.

Making a Difference
Today, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is the largest independent childhood cancer charity in the United States. Since its founding, the organization has raised more than $300 million and funded over 1,500 research grants across the United States, Canada, and Europe. These investments support groundbreaking research, innovative treatments, and clinical trials that bring hope to children and families affected by childhood cancer.
Supporting Families
In addition to funding research, ALSF provides critical support to families navigating childhood cancer. Through family assistance programs, travel support, and resources for siblings and caregivers, the Foundation helps ease some of the burdens families face during treatment and recovery.
Why This Matters
Childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States, yet pediatric cancer research continues to receive limited funding. Every day, approximately 43 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. Through awareness, advocacy, fundraising, and community involvement, we can help change these statistics and bring hope to thousands of families.
